NHSMUN in NYC
Experience the power of diplomacy and global collaboration as you join thousands of students from around the world at the National High School Model United Nations (NHSMUN) conference in New York City. This 6-day program combines participation in one of the largest and most prestigious Model United Nations conferences with an exciting exploration of New York City’s history, culture, and iconic landmarks. Students will engage in discussions on world issues, hone their public speaking and negotiation skills, and develop a deeper understanding of global governance while experiencing all that NYC has to offer.

Tour Highlights
NHSMUN Conference Participation
Participate in the NHSMUN Conference, where students represent different countries in simulated United Nations sessions. They will debate and negotiate solutions to global challenges, gaining invaluable insights into diplomacy, international relations, and global policy-making. This immersive experience allows students to develop leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
UN Headquarters Tour
Take a guided tour of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. Students will learn about the history, mission, and workings of the UN, as well as its role in resolving international conflicts and promoting peace, human rights, and development. The tour includes visits to the General Assembly Hall and other key areas of the building.
Visit to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
Experience two of New York City’s most iconic landmarks: the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Students will learn about the history of immigration to the United States and the role these landmarks played in shaping the nation’s identity. The visit highlights themes of global migration, human rights, and freedom.
Times Square and Broadway
Explore Times Square, the heart of New York City’s entertainment district. Students will also enjoy a Broadway show, immersing in the world-class performing arts scene that NYC is known for. This evening out offers both a cultural experience and an opportunity for relaxation after the intense conference sessions.
Central Park Exploration
Enjoy a guided walk through Central Park, an iconic green space that offers a peaceful respite from the bustling city. Students will learn about the park’s history, design, and its role in the urban environment.
American Museum of Natural History
Visit the American Museum of Natural History, one of the world’s largest and most celebrated museums. Explore its incredible exhibits on human cultures, natural sciences, and global ecosystems. This stop emphasizes the importance of understanding our world and its diverse ecosystems in the context of global governance and diplomacy.
City Landmarks and Cultural Sites
Discover New York’s cultural and historical landmarks, including the Empire State Building, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, and Rockefeller Center. Students will have the chance to experience the city’s vibrant art, history, and diverse neighborhoods.
By participating in NHSMUN, students will develop critical thinking, public speaking, and diplomacy skills, all while engaging with important global issues like climate change, human rights, and security. Through negotiation and debate, students will enhance their leadership abilities, learning how to work in teams, communicate effectively, and think creatively to find solutions to complex problems. This experience will deepen students’ understanding of international relations, the role of the United Nations, and how countries interact in the global arena. Through visits to iconic NYC landmarks, students will connect with the city’s rich cultural and historical legacy, further enriching their experience as global citizens.
Sample Itinerary
Arrive in New York City and check into the hotel. Begin the day with an orientation to the NHSMUN conference. Students will meet their delegations and familiarize themselves with the event schedule and logistics. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner and free time to explore the city.
The first day of NHSMUN begins with opening ceremonies, followed by committee sessions where students will represent their assigned countries. The focus of the day will be on debates and negotiations. Afterward, students can explore Times Square in the evening or attend a social event with other delegates.
Continue participating in committee discussions, refining diplomatic strategies, and working collaboratively with other student delegates. In the evening, students will have the opportunity to attend a Broadway show, experiencing the city’s world-class theater scene.
Spend the morning in the final sessions of NHSMUN, addressing pressing global issues in the UN simulation. In the afternoon, visit the United Nations Headquarters for a guided tour, where students will learn about the UN’s history, mission, and the structure of its various agencies. Evening free for sightseeing or relaxation.
Take a morning ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, learning about the immigrant experience and the importance of these symbols in the American narrative. In the afternoon, visit the American Museum of Natural History to explore exhibits on human cultures and natural sciences.
Spend the morning exploring Central Park and learning about the city’s urban planning. In the afternoon, visit key cultural landmarks, such as the Empire State Building and 9/11 Memorial & Museum, before concluding the tour. Students will have some free time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing before departing.
